Guest Post: 10 must-sees in Rome

Ever fancied a trip to Rome? Samantha from Coco Travels talks about 10 things you must do on your trip!

Colosseum

The Colosseum is top of my list for a reason. You know how sometimes tourist attractions can be overrated? Not this one! The Colosseum is absolutely incredible and I actually felt emotional when I rounded the corner and got my first glimpse of it. Do NOT miss it!


Trevi Fountain


The famous Trevi Fountain is usually packed with visitors and is apparently best seen at night time. We went in the day and it was pretty spectacular. You need to throw a coin in to ensure your return to Rome.


Pantheon


Every you look in Rome, there is something to see and the Pantheon is another one of those buildings that just jumps out at you from nowhere. It has the world’s largest pre-modern era dome and has been called the world’s only architecturally perfect building.


Spanish Steps


Situated on Rome’s most famous shopping street, the steps lead up to the Trinita dei Monti church and are a perfect photo opportunity. There’s also a rooftop bar on the left side as you’re going up which has a fantastic view of the steps, although it’s a little pricey.


The Roman Forum and Palatine

I will never get sick of exploring Roman ruins! As you’re walking round, you can almost imagine Ancient Romans walking around the streets. I’d recommend getting an audio guide to tell you more about each ruin.


Circus Maximus


The home of the chariot racing in Rome, this green space is situated close to the Colosseum. It’s not one of the bigger attractions and it was closed at the time of year we went, but well worth a look nevertheless.


Baths of Caracella


This is WELL WORTH the walk slightly outside of the city as these baths are so well preserved – even some of the tiled floorings still remain today. The fee to get in is also relatively cheap.


The Vatican Museum


The Vatican Museum is also unbelievable – it’s absolutely enormous! There are so many statues, so much art, such opulent ceilings – it really is a sight to behold. I’d plan to spend a good few hours here as we got there quite late and were still there at closing time.


St Peter’s Basilica


By the time we got here it was dark but that only made the church more impressive and magical. I think that because you see this on TV all the time, it’s just so incredible to see it in real life.

Explore Trastevere


We actually didn’t get time on this trip to explore Trastevere which I have to say I was a little gutted about. This side of the city is hip and bohemian with little boutiques, great food and awesome nightlife. A must-see to add to my list for the next visit!
