First time buyers: Hiring a removals company

Hiring a removals company

The whole process of purchasing a home is stressful enough, especially if you're new to the property market. We spent all our time trying to get around all the mortgage jargon and legalities, that we totally forgot we actually had to move house at the end of it!

One thing that can take this pressure off you is hiring a removals company, which this installment of my First Time Buyers series is all about!

How to take a break from blogging without losing your readers

How to take a break from blogging without losing your readers

Sometimes, you can find yourself in a position where you need to take a break from blogging. Maybe you're feeling uninspired, burned out, or you've got things going on in your life and your blog just can't be your main priority. Whatever the reasons are, the main reason that stops people from taking a blogging break, is losing their followers.

Keeping your blog updated with fresh content on a regular basis is, by far, the best way to keep your readers engaged, and bloggers can feel pressured to keep up with this. But you can put some plans in place in advance to help combat this. You might have to put some work in before you can take a break, but in the end, it will all be worth it because you won't spend your whole break wondering what's going on with your blog.

So, do you think it's time to take a break? Here's my tips:

First Time Buyers: A Guide to Conveyancing

Conveyancing Explained

So far in my First Time Buyers series, we have spoken about how much it costs to move house and property surveys. Today, I want to talk about conveyancing. This is another one of those things that people kept saying to me and I had no idea what they were talking about.

Turns out it's a pretty important part of the whole home buying process and you are probably not going to be able to do it yourself. You'll need to instruct a conveyancing solicitor. Your estate agent or property developer can point you in the right direction, but I would recommend shopping around a bit first because it can all get a bit pricey. (Yes, more money to part with, will it ever end?!)

When to throw away your make up

Make up products, cosmetics, mascara

Make up doesn't last forever. It's important to make sure you're not using old and expired make up on your face, otherwise you will be prone to transfer of bacteria and all kinds of infections and unfortunately, your products won't come with an expiration date on them. So here's my handy guide on when to throw away your make up.

Think about it logically. Would you drink a pint of milk that was a year old just because it was expensive and in a pretty bottle or had a designer name on the front? No! Obviously it would taste gross and you would be so sick. But just because you can't taste or smell that a product has gone off, still doesn't mean it's going to be good for you.

And if you hoard make up as much as I do, there's going to be stacks of things you have but don't use on a daily basis and you really need to think about how long you have had them before you start using them again.

First Time Buyers: Property Surveys Explained

Property Surveys Explained

It’s all busy, busy in the Dollface camp at the moment as we are finally settling into our new home!

Like I said in my last property post, I’ve been paying close attention to the whole home purchase process, ready to share with you my wealth of knowledge. (Side note: I’m not an expert, this whole thing has been so confusing!)

When we were getting ready to buy our new home we were told by our solicitors that we needed to get loads of surveys done, they threw the costs at us and I was so confused that I just let them get on with it. Although this made things easier for me at the time, when I looked into it afterwards, I realised I could have saved an awful lot of money if I had just taken the time to research about property surveys myself.

So you don’t make the same mistake as I did, here’s everything you need to know about property surveys!

First Time Buyers: How much does it really cost to move house?

How much does it really cost to move house?

I've got some exciting news. Mr Dollface and I have just bought our very first home, hooray! It's a brand new home, so we have been waiting for it to be built and we are so excited. Prepare to see lots of home related pics popping up on my twitter and Instagram soon, and you'll have already seen me planning the interiors on Pinterest!

Buying a home has not been an easy process and we've found that the people we've ended up dealing with tend to assume all buyers know what the process is. News flash: as first time buyers, we had no idea. Plus, our parents bought houses a long time ago and the process has changed since then.

I've decided to start an ad hoc post series all about buying your first home, what to expect and try and tell you some of the information that you might not know, and cut out all the jargon that completely threw us!

In this post, I'll be talking about some of the costs you're likely to come across (not including the ones you already know about such as the deposit). We had no idea about some of these fees and I wish we had been a little more prepared. Because we weren't made aware until the last minute, we didn't get a chance to do much price comparison or look into anything.

If we had been aware of them, we would have used's easy cost of moving calculator and been a little more prepared!

So here's a few of the extra costs you can expect to encounter!

What to do when you fall out of love with your blog

What to do when you fall out of love with your blog

It doesn't matter whether you've been blogging for 5 weeks, 5 months or 5 years, at some point along the line, you'll fall out of love with you blog. But what do you do when this happens? Do you give up? Keep going even though you're not enjoying it and turn it into a chore? Neither of those options will do your blog any good.

I fall out of love with my blog ALL THE TIME and it could be for any number of reasons. Sometimes I don't have the time to blog as much as I'd like and so I don't like how slowly it progresses, sometimes I am annoyed that my photo's don't turn out how I wanted, or I get frustrated that only 5 people read a post that I was really proud of. But it's so important to get back to a place where you enjoy blogging and you're pleased with what you're doing.

So here's what I do when I fall out of love with my blog.

Everyday makeup collection for under £50

Everyday makeup collection for under £50

It's not impossible to put together an everyday makeup collection on a budget. You can still pack your makeup bag with base products, contouring kits, palettes to create a range of different looks and loads more without breaking the bank, so I thought I would show off my everyday makeup collection for less than £50.

It's not always about owning the best high end products, you can still have a great makeup collection that allows you to style some amazing looks and have some pennies to spare, so if you're on a budget, then this post is for you!

Bargain makeup brushes for less than £5: the verdict

Wangsaura makeup brushes | cheap makeup brushes

You might have seen on Instagram that I recently purchased 30 new makeup brushes for less than £5. No, I didn't make a typo, I actually spent £5 on 30 makeup brushes.

I usually use a mix of Real Techniques and Spectrum brushes, but only really have one core set, so I was forever battling with the need to wash my brushes and actually use them, as we all know it take 2753020 hours for makeup brushes to dry naturally.

So I decided to spend a few quid on a set that I could use once in a while, giving me the chance to actually clean and dry my brushes properly. The brushes I chose are a brand called Wangsaura and I found them on Amazon. I couldn't argue with the pricing.

7 things no one told you about being a blogger

7 things no one told you about being a blogger

The bloggosphere is so saturated now with everyone joining in but do you know what I'm noticing? Not many of the bloggers I see coming in are actually still going a few months later. Why do I think that is? (and I say this without wanting to ruffle any feathers) People are seeing the independent success people are having from their blogs and YouTube channels and everyone wants a chance to make the same money without realising what actually goes on behind the scenes.

I've been blogging since 2013, and while I haven't made any money, found huge success or made a name for myself on any level, I keep my blog going as much as I can because I'm proud of my little space on the internet. Don't get me wrong, sometimes I sit here and think to myself 'But why am I not a millionaire from my blog yet?'

The truth is, that's not what it's about.

I wanted to write this post to remind myself, and others, that even if we haven't made our millions, we've still achieved so much by being faithful to our blogs and developing them into online reflections of ourselves and creating a place for people to come and enjoy our content despite the obstacle we may overcome.

So here are 7 things nobody told you about being a blogger.

Superdrug Vitamin E Hot Cloth Cleanser Review

Superdrug Vitamin E Hot Cloth Cleanser

I talk about skincare a lot on my blog and that's because I think it's the most important part of any makeup routine and they key to creating flawless and natural looks. In my time, I've spent an awful lot of money on skincare products, tried out so many and have a few firm favourites. One of my absolute favourites in the Liz Earle Hot Cloth Cleanser. You can read in my review why I love it so I won't detail all of that here, but I have found a dupe for the Liz Earle Hot Cloth Cleanser and that's what I want to talk about today!

The Superdrug Vitamin E Hot Cloth Cleanser seems to do the same job as the Liz Earle Cleanser with only a few differences.

8 tips to tackle hay fever

8 tips to tackle hay fever

It's that time of year again and those succeptible to hayfever are seeing their symptoms flair up again. I'm somewhat of an irregular hayfever sufferer. I don't seem to get it every year, and it doesn't seem to be as bad as a lot of people I know, but still, it's annoying. I've been chatting to a few friends who have hayfever and and some experts from Pharma Nord to come up with 8 tips to tackle hay fever this summer and since it is Allergy Awareness Week from 25th April - 1st May, what better time to talk about it?

What is hay fever?

So, it might be extremely common, and we've all heard of it, but what is hay fever? In simple terms, exposure to pollen causes the body to produce an antibody which binds to the proteins in pollen, in turn, this triggers another part of the immune system to release a histamine that is responsible for inflammation  which causes the common symptoms of hay fever including a runny or blocked nose, watery and itchy eyes and sneezing. Look at me getting all science on you!!

5 post-break up beauty buys to make you feel less rubbish

Sad Pug

Break-ups are rubbish, but if there's anything I've learnt in my time, it's that they are also a great reason to make some changes. If you've been in a relationship for a while, you are likely to have swapped your lengthy beauty routines for pj's and Netflix with your beau, and if you've just broken up, what better time than to start making yourself feel fabulous again?

There's nothing worse than finding out you knight in shining armour was just a prat in tinfoil, but there's also little better than a fresh tan, fierce contour and a fabulous makeup look. Here are my top post-break up beauty buys so you can get out and slay the world again like the Queen that you are.

Why I won't be turning on your Instagram post notifications

Instagram Algorithm Change | Turn on Notifications

Everyone is going batshit crazy over the new Instagram algorithm, and I'll admit, I was pretty pissed off when I first heard about it too. But I am now so bored of my feed being clogged up with 'turn on my notifications' posts, so I thought I would tell you why I will not be turning on post notifications for your Instagram...

First of all, let's go over some of the key changes to Instagram. The feed will be shifting to a more Facebook like approach, and we shouldn't be too surprised since Facebook own Instagram. I don't mean you'll be bombarded by Candy Crush invites btw, it just means posts will be shown out of chronological order in some cases and feeds will be more tailored to show you what you are likely to be interested in based on your current activity. So if you're worried about missing Harry Styles' black and white photo's or Liam Payne's selfies with Cheryl, you probably won't, because if you're into that then it's likely that you've double tapped, or stalked their profiles enough for Instagram to realise you want to see them. The idea is that we can't be on Instagram all day, so they want to show us the things we like seeing, every time we log on.

Why I won't be turning on your Instagram post notifications

How to keep your followers and stop them unfollowing

How to keep your followers and stop them unfollowing

One of the most frustrating things when you're building your social community is losing followers. Especially when you've just hit a milestone! Let's discuss how to keep your followers, so you can keep that social empire thriving.

1. Be relevant

Make sure the content you are posting is relevant to your brand and will interest the people following you. Posting irrelevant tweets or content is a sure fire way to lose followers. Remember, these people followed you for a reason, because they are interested in your niche, so don't stray too far, too often.

Blogging with a full time job

If you've been blogging for a while, like me, you'll have read all the blogging tips posts on what you need to do to make your blog a success. It involves, constant content creation, spending an awful lot of time promoting your posts on social media and various other outlets as well as other social media engagement to build up your community. We all know what will help us improve our blog readership, but for me, there's one thing standing in the way; my job. I'd love to spend every hour under the sun writing for and promoting my blog, but I spend too much of my time at work. So it's time for a new kind of post; advice for blogging with a full time job.

Although the end goal is to make blogging my job, I can't just quit in order to spend my time making it a success because I need the pay cheque. 5 blogging tips for beauty bloggers on a budget

Beauty blogging on a budget

We've all got our favourite beauty bloggers and we spend hours reading their posts or watching their vlogs about the wonderful high-end products they're trying out or their tutorials that we can't replicate because one product they've used costs more than our entire make up collection. I've spent a lot of time searching for blogging tips to help me succeed without spending all my cash!

We all strive to be like one of these bloggers, except the reality is, we don't all have the money or the PR connections to be able to shower our followers with these pricey products. In fact, sometimes I find myself only buying 1 or 2 new products a month, and it's pretty difficult to get a whole months worth of content out of two things. I used to let this get my down and I felt like I was failing as a beauty blogger because I couldn't always show off the latest MAC lipstick collection, or Instagram the whole Clinique skincare range or even post haul after haul.

But I've been trying to get myself out of my blogging slump and actually, I've realised that beauty blogging doesn't have to be about showing off the most expensive things, or flaunting the latest releases all the time. It's exactly what is says on the tin; beauty blogging and you can definitely do this on a budget. Case and point, is little old me.

So here are 5 of my blogging tips for beauty blogging on a budget.

How to increase your Facebook post organic reach

How to increase your Facebook post organic reach

Have you noticed that less and less of your Facebook fans are seeing your posts? So even if 1,000 people like your page, they aren't all going to see your posts, and you're not alone.

Why is my organic reach so low?

Facebook is now such a powerful marketing tool, so, the social media site is filled with individuals, brands and businesses sharing content every second. Because of this, you face increased competition to appear in someone's News Feed. On average, there are 1,500 stories that could appear in a person’s News Feed each time they log onto Facebook.

How can I get more people to see my Facebook posts?

The quickest solution is to start paying to 'boost' your post to your fans, meaning Facebook will show it in more of your fan's News Feeds. This can become very expensive, very quickly, so if you're on a budget, here are a few ways you can increase your organic Facebook reach for free.

New Year's Resolutions and Blogging Goals for 2016

DollfaceBlogs New Year's Resolutions and Blogging Goals 2016

Well hello! You may (or may not...) have noticed that I've not been the most active blogger for quite a while and while I could sit here and delve into the reasons for that, it probably wouldn't make for the nicest read, especially on New Year's Day!

2015 was a rollercoaster year for me, with some of the highest highs and lowest lows I've ever experienced. In 2015, I married my best friend, met some incredible new people and learned a lot about true friendship, and it's those positive moments and memories I want to bring into 2016.

I started this blog in 2013 and have had a very on/off relationship with the blogging world, going from feeling so involved, to very ostracised at times. I put a lot of pressure on myself to 'keep up with the Joneses' and come down really hard on myself when it doesn't quite go the way I want it to. So, 2016 is going to see me taking my blog back to it's roots and I'll be blogging for myself, and not to keep up with what everyone else is doing.

I've decided to make 5 resolutions this year. They are a mix of personal resolutions and blogging goals for 2016, some can be applied to both, and I wanted to post about them as a reminder and to give me something to look back on at the end of the year!
