It's basically my worst nightmare when I'm running out of foundation and I can't find my usual brand in my usual shade anywhere, meaning I either have to take the risk and potentially have no foundation until the shops get their delivery and then queue up at opening time to make sure it doesn't sell out, or I have to opt for a different brand.
Usually, I opt for a different brand. I like a risk, but not a foundation-free one!
This time I chose to go for the L'Oreal Infallible 24 hour Matte foundation, and in the spirit of things, I bought the primer from the same range and have decided to do a double review for you.
Both products come in cute little squeezy tubes with round lids and precise nozzles. I like the branding across both, and that you can see the product through the bottle. They also both have great descriptions on the back, showing you exactly what to expect from the coverage and texture etc.
As you can see from the back of the bottle, the primer:
- has a light texture
- mattifies
- for use before makeup
The clear gel like liquid is easily spreadable with your fingers and dries pretty quickly and evenly. I do notice if I apply too much, my skin feels a little sticky, but as long as I'm conservative, it feels light and lovely!
It does create a nice base over moisturiser for your foundation and it really does help give you a longer lasting look. I'm using it daily underneath my foundation at the moment, in order to keep my coverage while I'm at work!
Next up is the Infallible 24hour matte foundation.
On the back of the bottle, you can see that it has:
- medium texture
- high coverage
- matte finish
- shine control
Excellent, just what we all like, right?
The liquid foundation is relatively light, and easy to apply and blend with both brushes and sponges. As promised, the finish is definitely semi-matte which I really like. It doesn't look as shallow as a full matte complexion, but it doesn't over power on the dewiness. In fact, it looks lovely and natural.
The coverage is great, I've had a few blemishes recently and it covers reasonably well without concealer.
What I did notice, is that the Infallible foundation tends to cling onto dry areas. So make sure you have well moisturised your skin beforehand, and used a nice layer of the Infallible primer!
As for 24 hours, I'm not so sure. While it did last longer than other foundations I have tried, I found that about 3/4s of the way through the day, I could have done with a top up. Admittedly this could have been my fault. I'm the worst for sitting with my face in my hands and touching my face throughout the day, so it's quite possible I just was taking it off myself!
I picked both of these up from Superdrug, click the mini pictures below to pick them up for yourself for £7.99 each!
