I've got a random drawer full of little odd bits of make up that I've picked up along the way; lots of mismatched products that I've not fallen in love with yet, or samples that I've not got around to trying because I already use something similar.
Hiding away in that drawer, was a sample of Benefit High Beam Highlighter, which I think I received in a Birchbox not long ago! I've only recently got into contouring and highlighting, which is why I think I popped it away without trying it, but now I'm highlighting more regularly, I thought I'd get it out and I've definitely fallen for it!
The sample is in a cute little cylinder bottle with a small applicator brush, not dissimilar to a nail varnish, but a bit softer. The full size version is just a bit larger, but no big differences.
The highlighter itself is very creamy and super blendable, so really simple to apply and get to grips with.
I apply to my cheekbones and brow bones as well as down the centre of my nose to add highlight to the places that would naturally catch the sun. I simply dab a couple of dots onto the area, you really don't need a lot of it, then I simply blend in with my ring finger and use a buffing brush to finish the blend. (My favourite is the Real Techniques buffer brush from the core collection!)
What's different about the Benefit High Beam Highlighter in comparison to other highlighters I've tried? Well, this one has a more illuminating effect which adds something of a glistening effect. It's not so much shiny as if it were oily skin but a gorgeous shimmering effect, really giving depth and definition to the face, especially when paired with contouring.
The full size version is a little pricier than any highlighter or illuminator I've purchased before, but once my sample runs out, I will most definitely be purchasing. The 13 ml bottle of Benefit High Beam Highlighter is £19.50 from FeelUnique.com.
