OOTD - Ghost Kinsley Dress*

OOTD | Designer Ghost Kinsley Black Dress

By now, if you look back through my OOTD's, you'll be well aware I am a huge fan of a little black dress. Not only can I utilise my entire shoe collection with every single LBD I own, I just prefer to keep things plain and simple, and add that little something extra with accessories.

In this case, I've got the gorgeous Ghost Kinsley Dress in Black which is a stunning velvet contemporary shift dress, with silk contrasting panels around the sleeves and a sheer panel across the neckline.

Stocking Filler Inspiration

Christmas Stocking Filler Ideas

I always get to this point of the year and think that I have finished all my Christmas shopping, well done me, pat on the back. Oh hold up, I've not got any stocking fillers, or a Secret Santa present. Dammit!

So, if you are like me and need some last minute gifts to pop in a stocking or wrap up really nicely to look like you spent an awful lot of time picking out your Secret Santa present, then here's a super quick Christmas Gift Guide just for you!

Gelicity Gel Spa Foot Soak Review*

Gelicity Gel Spa Foot Soak Review

It's a bit naughty of me, but I really don't give my feet a lot of attention. My toenails are rarely painted, I always forget to moisturise them and I'm forever coating them in fake tan and the trotting around all day in heels. And then I wonder why they aren't looking so great.

As the weather is getting colder, the tops of my feet are either exposed to the cold air in my stilettos or wrapped underneath socks and shoved inside some boots, and neither of these can be very good for them!

So, it's about time that I gave my feet a little treat, in the form of a home foot spa.

I got my hands on a really unique gel foot soak kit by Gelicity. The Gelicity Gel Spa Foot Soak comes in 3 fragrances. The soothe foot soak is lavendar and lemongrass, the cool foot soak is peppermint and menthol and the one I have is the refresh foot soak which is tea tree and grapefruit.

Happy 12th Birthday Nude Jewellery*

Nude Jewellery Vanilla Links Double Link Silver Pendant

Contemporary jewellery designer, Nude Jewellery, has just celebrated it's 12th birthday! Hip hip, hooray!

Since our birthday's our only a couple of days apart, Nude Jewellery decided to celebrate with me, by offering this simply stunning silver necklace so I can show you guys just how fabulous their range of handmade jewellery is!

(And, yes, that does just mean it was my birthday too, although I'm a considerable few years older than 12. In fact, 14 years older! You do the math, lol!)

Models Own Velvet Ghost in Obsidian Review

Model's Own Velvet Goth - Obsidian Review and Swatches

The Model's Own Velvet Goth range comes in 5 gorgeously understated deep shades. Absinthe, Sardonyx, Valerian, Amethyst and the shade featured in this post; Obsidian.

I've had this nail polish for a while, just sitting in my box of nail varnishes, with no real inclination to wear it, until I wanted something subtly festive that I could wear everyday and I thought I would see how it looked.

The Model's Own Obsidian nail varnish shade is a simple black shade, with lashings of gorgeous silver glitter to give it a bit of an edge!

Christmas treats for my dressing table*

House of Fraser Linea Mulled Berry Scent collection | Christmas fragrances

The Christmas decorations have started going up in my house this week. We don't go overly crazy with decorations, we just have a little tree, a wreath for our door and a few bits of tinsel dotted around the place.

I wanted to add in some lovely Christmas scents around my home, and I thought the best place to start would be with somewhere I spend an awful lot of time; my dressing table!

I've added three Christmassy fragrance treats from the House of Fraser Linea Mulled Berry Scent collection; the mulled berry reed diffuser, jar candle and botanical candle to my dressing table.

House of Fraser Linea Mulled Berry Scent collection | Christmas fragrances

All three have a gorgeous festive scent of Mulled Berries. It's a very sweet and fruity fragrance, with hints of cranberry, cherry and blackcurrant infused with some beautiful wintery spices.

X Factor Style - Live Shows // Week 8

X Factor 2014 Style and Fashion Live Shows Week 8

I cannot believe we are so close to the end of the X Factor 2014! Next week is the semi-finals and then we're already at the final!

But it's that time of year when all the fun reality TV comes to an end and in a few weeks we will be counting down until the next season of X Factor, Strictly and I'm a Celeb. (Only me? Okay...)

Obviously, with a rapidly decreasing amount of contestants (we lost 8 this weekend! Anyone else mourning the loss of Stereo Kicks?!), picking fashion faves is becoming more difficult. Especially when they are now all so immaculately styled!

Blue Vanilla Hannah Fringed Cape - Autumn OOTD*

Blue Vanilla Hannah Fringed Cape Autumn OOTD

Autumn is the time for warm layers, especially now we're moving into December, so actually it's technically winter! (How did that happen?!)

Coats and jackets are some of my favourite accessories in Autumn, and this year I have totally fallen in love with capes, and especially this Hannah Fringed Cape from Blue Vanilla!

The black and beige cape has a beautiful fringe detail along the bottom and 3/4 length sleeves.

Instagram Advent Competition

Alternative advent calendar

Tomorrow is the 1st of December, which means, Christmas is coming and also, more importantly, we can start opening our advent calendars!

I've decided to run an exciting advent calendar competition on my Instagram page right the way up until Christmas day! You can win a £20 voucher to one of your favourite beauty or fashion retailers, and this competition is open WORLDWIDE!

Every day, I will post an advent calendar door on my Instagram page, and behind that door will be one of my favourite brands, and three of my favourite items!

To reveal the brand and the items, you will need to be signed up to 'Like to know it' (it's free and they don't send you spam!). Once you are signed up, you can like the Instagram photo, and the items will be emailed to you!

All you need to do is comment on the photo, telling me which is your favourite item and why you love it!

I will be randomly selecting a day from the advents, and then picking one winner to win a £20 voucher for the brand they commented on! Winners will be announced on Boxing Day 2014 via Instagram direct messages!

To increase your chances of winning, you can comment on as many photos as you like with your answer, you could even leave a comment per item, and then you have three shots at winning the voucher for that brand!

A quick round up:

1. Follow me on Instagram (@DollfaceEmmy)
3. Like my Instagram advent photos to receive an email with my top 3 items
4. Comment on the photo telling me which your favourite item is, and why you love it

See, easy. The first photo will be going up tomorrow, so keep an eye out for it and if you would like to keep an eye on all the entires, I will be using the hashtag #DollfaceAdvent.

If you have any questions, let me know in the comments, or you can email me on

Keep an eye out for the first picture tomorrow! Good luck!

Beauty Protector 'Protect and Detangle' leave in conditioner review

Beauty Protector Protect and Detangle leave in conditioner review

This sample of the Beauty Protector 'protect and detangle' leave in conditioner was included in my November Birchbox and I was really excited to try it out.

You'll have heard me complaining a lot about my hair. It's an absolute nightmare. My hair is really, really fine and flat, but there is quite a lot of it. Because of this, it's gets tangled and knotty very quickly. Even using lots of normal conditioner when I was it doesn't really help, I still can't get a brush through it properly when it's wet. I also struggle when it's dry, the slightest movement tangles it right back up again, making styling it, or even wearing it down, a massive task.

So, when I found out that the protect and detangle leave in conditioner promised to detangle hair as well as protect from heat, help seal cuticles and look after coloured hair, I was sold immediately and tried it out straight away.

Dr Jart+ v7 Balancing Toner Review

Dr Jart+ V7 Balancing Toner Review

I tend to change my skincare up around this time of year, only really to make sure my skin is fully protected as it gets colder, but I also use this time to experiment with new products, which usually ends up in a total overhaul of my permanent skincare routine.

Recently, I was sent the Dr Jart+ v7 balancing toner in my November Birchbox, so thought I would give it a go!

Dr Jart+'s V7 range have a revolutionary 7 Vitamin complex that sets out to tackle a huge range of skin issues. So what are the vitamins and what do they do?

X Factor Style - Live Shows // Week 7

X Factor Style and Fashion Live Shows Week 7

Oh my goodness. We are down to the final 5 of X Factor 2014. After a shock exit for Only The Young, and perhaps a not so shock exit for Stevi Richie, we are left with Andrea, Lauren, Fleur, Ben and Stereo Kicks!

Who have you got your money on to win?!

Being down to the final 5 is great, but it does mean the choices for my fashion post are narrowed down as the number of ladies is decreasing! At least we will have Cheryl and Mel right until the end!

Again, I think everyone looked fab and it's certainly got to the point in the show where everyone has found their style and comes out looking confident and amazing.

If you haven't already, catch up with my X Factor fashion post series here.

Top 10 tips for bloggers on twitter

Twitter advice for bloggers

It's been a while since I wrote another post for my blogging tips series, so I thought I would jump straight back in there with a big one! This time, I'll be focusing on best practice for bloggers on twitter.

So, how can you get people from twitter onto your blog?

There are so many different tips floating around the blogging universe on how to use twitter for blogging, and most people tend to think they need a million followers before twitter will become a useful tool for promoting their blog, but in fact, that's not necessarily the case. It might be better said that twitter is one of the best places to start driving traffic to your blog.

Write good content, promote it well and the followers will come to you. (Okay, that makes it sound easy peasy, but it does take a fair bit of work).

As I like to do at the beginning of these posts, I'll just post a little disclaimers. I'm no expert, and I am fully aware I'm not the biggest blogger, nor do I have the biggest twitter following. But I do have a few years' experience of blogging as well as working in marketing so I have picked up a few hints and tips along the way. Some of which I do, and some I don't, but not for any other reason than I don't have time. You don't have to take my advice as bible, or you might have different advice that you would give, and if that's the case, I would love to hear it in the comments section of this post. Bloggers helping bloggers and all that.

Before we start, if you'd like to catch up with any of my other blogging tips posts then click here!

Onto the matter at hand, let's get tweeting...

X Factor Style - Live Shows // Week 6

X Factor Style and Fashion Live Shows Week 6

Well, this X Factor was full of twists and turns, wasn't it?!

Probably the biggest story of the weekend's show was that Stevi Richie actually beat Jay James in the sing off. Nope, that's actually what happened.

After Mel banging on for weeks that she didn't get why he was in the competition and so many good singers were going out and he was still here, she actually voted to keep him! Followed by Cheryl saying she would miss him more and that sent it to deadlock and we had to see Jay get booted off!

We were also treated to the first showing of the new Band Aid song and a couple of wowzer performances from Nicole Scherzinger and Olly Murs.

All in all, it was a ruddy good weekend for X Factor.

I do have one problem though... this post isn't going to feature a worst dressed fashion offender, because I bloody couldn't find one! The boys all looked dapper in their suits and all the ladies looked so glam, so I've just picked my top 4, including a surprise entry!

Bourjois Paris Happy Light Concealer Review and Swatches

Bourjois Paris Happy Light Ultra-Covering Concealer Review and Swatches

Getting good, long lasting coverage is something that really defines what foundation/base products I buy. I am very prone to getting little spots, and also have a few uneven areas complete with little spot scars.

I've been piling through all sorts of concealers recently, trying to find something that is going to cover all my little problems, last all day and still look natural, and I think I've finally found my saving grace.

The Bourjois Happy Light Concealer boasts on the front of it's super cute little pot, that it's ultra-unifiant and ultra-covering. Good start, let's see how it fairs!

I posted the other day about the Boohoo dress I wore for my pre wedding shoot, and now you can see it in all it's glory in the final photographs!

X Factor Style - Live shows // Week 5

X Factor Style and Fashion Live Shows Week 5

Well, didn't we have an eventful X Factor this weekend?!

From a stage invader to a shock exit, there was certainly enough going on that part of me almost forgot to pay attention to what everyone was wearing! Never fear though, I managed to find a few minutes in between everything going on to clock what was working and what really wasn't!

I was glad to see that everyone accessorised their outfits with a poppy. Good show, guys!

X Factor Style - Live Shows // Week 4

X Factor Style and Fashion - Live Shows Week 4

Hey dolls, sorry my X Factor fashion post is a little later than usual, but rest assured, I hadn't forgotten about it!

This week was halloween, so all the contestants were dressed in their scariest attire and they did put on a fantastic show.

Can we just pause for a moment, before we carry on, to talk about Stevi Richie..?! Now, I'm not sure what you all made of his Phantom of the Opera performance, but once he got the shaky first verse out of the way, he was actually pretty good! Maybe a life on the stage will happen for him after all! Part of me did miss the cheesy, fun-filled Stevi, but you could see how pleased and overwhelmed he was with the reaction from the crowd. I actually felt a little bit proud!

Okay, now back to it. I'm not going to be rating their halloween costumes here, I'm going for the actual fashion here, well as best as I can!

OOTD // Boohoo Casey Scoop Back Belted Dress

Boohoo Casey Scoop Back Belted Dress in purple

On Sunday, we had our pre-wedding/engagement shoot with our wedding photographer. Once we have the final photo's I'll be sure to post them up here for you all to see!

While we're waiting for the photographs to come through, I thought I'd show you my outfit for the shoot!

We went back to our venue for the shoot, so we can start to get an idea for the photo's we would like on the day. We are getting married at the amazing Westonbirt House. It's such a stunning venue so I wanted to dress up nicely!

OOTD // DressKode Alexia jeans with side cut out bows and lace*

DressKode Alexia jeans with side cut out bows and lace

I'm a bit bored of regular jeans now, so I actually hardly wear them. When I do, I tend to opt for skinny jeans over other styles. I'm not sure why, but I think I have more shoe options with skinnies than bootcut or other styles!

I've been out of jeans for a while, mainly because it's been the summer I find most of mine too warm to crack out during the sunnier months, and also because I'm bored of them and wanted a new, quirky pair, which I have definitely found now, all thanks to DressKode!

OOTD // Hybrid Fashion Delta Capped Sleeve Peplum Dress with Satin Neckline*

Hybrid Fashion Delta Capped Sleeve Peplum Dress with Satin Neckline

I love a smart little dress for all kinds of occasions. I go away with work to quite a few things that will involve me having to dress smartly, so I like to have a little stock of options in my wardrobe.

The gorgeous people from Hybrid Fashion sent me this absolutely beautiful Delta Capped Sleeve Peplum dress to add to my collection and I love it.

For starters, it's super flattering. I have a massive range of peplum pieces in my wardrobe, because I love the way they flatter my figure. I don't have much going on in the hip department, and peplum detail can just add that little bit extra while still making my waist look small.

X Factor Style - Live Shows // Week 3

X Factor Style and Fashion - Live Shows Week 3

Monday is back and that means the weekend is over. Boooo! However, it does mean I get to post my style round up for this weekend's X Factor, which just happens to be the third live show!

*Spoiler alert - I am about to talk about who went/what I thought before I move onto the fashion, so if you haven't caught up yet, you might want to skip past this bit!*

I must say, after the Saturday show, I was a bit disappointed. I don't think anyone was stand out. Paul was probably my favourite performance and if they don't stop giving Andrea the big diva power ballads and show us what else he can do, I'm going to get bored.

Having said that, I do think Jake Quickenden deserved to be in the bottom two, perhaps along with Stevi Richie(I love watching him, but his time is slowly coming to an end). However, after the sing off performance, I think Only the Young deserved to go. I'm afraid their 'save me' performance just wasn't as good as Jake's, but that's the way it goes. Hopefully they will come back next week and blow us away so I don't resent them too much!

Anyway, onto the reason we are all here; the fashion! I think everyone's upping their game at the moment and looking fab. They are all really finding their styles and I'm beginning to struggle to find an outfit I don't like!

DollfaceBlogs new look - thanks to PipDig

Customer blogger and wordpress layouts by PipDig

You might have noticed that things are looking a little different on DollfaceBlogs at the mo. I've always created my own layouts using my basic knowledge of HTML and web design which I have been teaching myself since the ripe old age of 14. However, things are a bit more complicated to achieve now and there are lots of things I just can't get my head around.

I spent a while trying to create the look I wanted for my blog, but just couldn't quite get the coding and design right, which really began to bug me as it was so close, but still not what I wanted.

I decided to have a look around at the vast array of designers and layout Gods that are drifting around the internet and stumbled across the wonderful PipDig. PipDig have a lovely selection of pre-made layout templates for Blogger and Wordpress hosted blogs, that can be used as is, or altered slightly to get the exact look you are after. If you can't find anything already showing on their website, they also offer a custom design service, so you really can get your blog exactly the way you want it.

My thoughts on that Zoella article

Independent Voices Zoella Article by Chloe Hamilton

Twitter pretty much exploded today after Independent Voices published an article about how Zoe Sugg, aka Zoella, was not the type of role model teenage girls should have. While I appreciate it is an opinion piece, the article not only angered me for being poorly researched, (as a Journalism graduate, these things bother me. Opinion pieces still need research), but also for that fact it was contradictory, derogatory and offensive. So here's my note to Chloe Hamilton.

My first point is going to be, that for an article that states that Zoe is contradicting everything about feminism, it should not have begun with a personal attack on her looks. The article does go on to describe the fact she is open about her anxiety, so why on earth would it then be okay to target her and make inexcusable comments about the way she looks? That is plain bullying and is not acceptable. Is this not also anti-feminist? Should we not be supporting and celebrating a young woman who has embraced the opportunities presented to her and used them to create a better life for herself and the hope to inspire others?

So who actually is the anti-feminist here? Zoe, or the journalist who feels a personal attack on another female, just because they don't like what they do, in a publicly aired opinion piece?

Autumn Tag

Autumn Leaves

I was tagged by the gorgeous Samantha from Coco Butter Blog (who, coincidentally, is one of my October advertisers!) to do the Autumn Tag, which I thought was a fab idea! I haven't done a tag for so long, and I love Autumn, so I thought I'd give it a go!

As much as I love Summer, I think I actually prefer Autumn. I love the crisp air, and the crunchy leaves and just the whole aura around this time of year. I'm not such a fan of the wind and rain, but that does give me an excuse to stay wrapped up nice and warm in my house watching all my favourite tv shows, which seem to all start at the end of Summer/beginning of Autumn! (X Factor being my favourite!)

So, here we go with the Autumn Tag! Watch out at the bottom of the post in case I have tagged you!

Maybelline Colossal Go Extreme! Leather Black Mascara Review

Maybelline Colossal Go Extreme! Leather Black Mascara

I love a good mascara. Aside from foundation, it's probably the one thing I refuse to leave the house without and the more boost it gives my lashes, the better. The Maybelline Colossal Go Extreme Leather Black Mascara boasts 20 times more collagen compared to the original Go Extreme mascara. It's also supposed to have the biggest mascara brush yet!

All of these added together are literally my dream mascara rolled into one. So how did it fair when I tried it out? Here's my review so you can find out!

X Factor Style - Live Shows // Week 2

X Factor Style and Fashion - Live Shows Week 2

Another weekend done, another week of X Factor finished, so it's time for my style round up of the X Factor live shows - week 2! Did you all watch? Of course you did! Were you shocked by the eliminations, or did you expect it?

In my honest opinion, I wasn't expecting Chloe Jasmine to be in the bottom two, but I did think her 'save me' performance was terrible. She deserved to go after that. I think Stereo Kicks are on their last legs as well I'm afraid. There's just too many of them and it's difficult to watch!

Anyway, onto what we are actually here to talk about; the fashion! If you missed my style round up from week one, click here to take a look.

Twitter chats for beauty, fashion and lifestyle bloggers

Twitter chats for beauty, fashion and lifestyle bloggers | Blogging Tips

Blogging is all about the community, but sometimes it's difficult to break into an existing community. Without trying to brand it as a 'clique', a lot of bloggers already have their social circle of friends on twitter, but that doesn't mean you can't join them. In fact, I think you'd be more than welcome!

Twitter chats are designed for all bloggers to join, tweet and discuss about the thing they have a passion for; blogging. Some are specifically for beauty bloggers, or fashion bloggers, some separate by ages and some are just there for everyone to join in!

In my second instalment of blogging tips, I've put together this comprehensive list of all blogger twitter chats as well as a bit about them and how you can use them!

Note: this list is correct as of 16/10/2014.

What is a twitter chat?

Twitter chats are held on specific days and times, accompanied by a hashtag. All you have to do is find the hashtag, see what people are talking about and join in. Some chats run through a series of questions to spark discussion and others are free chats.

How will a twitter chat help me and my blog?

Mallzee App Review | The future of online shopping is here

Mallzee App | iPhone

It goes without saying that, with anything in life, there probably is an app for that. I don't know about you, but I am one of those people who will quite happily complete all daily tasks from banking to ordering a takeaway and shopping for new outfits on my phone. While I'm quite happy browsing the internet on my phone or iPad, an app makes things ten times easier, and I'll much more likely to head to brands who have an app when I'm browsing for shoes, clothes or cosmetics.

Then, to the extent of my laziness, I one day decided I didn't want to have to flick from the ASOS app to New Look etc etc, I wanted everything on ONE app. As if I was going to town and wanted to look at all the different shops, but without actually leaving my house. And to top it all off, I want it to tell me which clothes I should buy and I don't want to PAY for the app. Why would I do that..?

As if by some freak twist of fate, I somehow stumbled across the Mallzee app (download it here)The easiest way for me to describe it is that it is a free online shopping app that allows you to swipe through clothes as if they were boys on Tinder, save your looks, share with your friends and complete your online shopping ALL IN ONE PLACE. Not lying; it's genius.

Eylure Sarah Harding Girls Aloud Party False Lashes Review

Sarah Harding Girls Aloud Party False Lashes by Eylure

I am completely terrible for buying cosmetics and other products and then putting them in my hoard of products and forgetting about them, which is exactly what I've done with my Eylure Sarah Harding Girls Aloud Party False Lashes.

I must have had this pair of fake eyelashes for ages and maybe I chose not to use them because they are a bit out there and more dramatic than I would usually go for, or maybe I just completely forgot about them... The latter is more likely!

As I was getting ready for an impromptu night out, I realised I had no lashes so I literally turned my baskets and boxes of products upside down and inside out in the hope of finding some. Luckily, I stumbled across these and just went with it.

I do love it when Eylure collaborate with celebrities on their fake eyelash lines, they make for great party lashes!

X Factor Style - Live shows // Week 1

X Factor 2014 Style and Fashion - Live Shows Week 1

I absolutely love this time of year, because not only can I get my favourite knitwear back out and be all snuggly, but all the good TV comes out of hiding. One of my all time favourite viewings has to be X Factor, and it's not only for the odd boyband, but for the style.

X Factor sees a weekly fashion battle between the two female judges, this year being Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Mel B of Spice Girls and general scariness fame. I also LOVE seeing what all the contestants are wearing so I've decided to share my thoughts with you, starting with the judges themselves.

Makeup Revolution Ultra Bronze Bronzer Review

Makeup Revolution Ultra Bronze Bronzer

Makeup Revolution is one of my favourite brands at the moment. Not only are their products extremely affordable and readily available online and in most Superdrug stores, they are also amazing quality. I'm yet to be disappointed by a Makeup Revolution product!

I've reviewed a couple of Makeup Revolution palettes before, but this time I've discovered their Ultra Bronze bronzer and I can't get enough of it so decided to review it for you.

ZoellaBeauty Blissful Mistful and Fizz Bar Review

An image showing the ZoellaBeauty Fizz Bar bath fizzers and Blissful Mistful body mist

ZoellaBeauty is quite possibly the most talked about beauty launch of the year, especially amongst bloggers, since the lovely lady behind ZoellaBeauty, Zoe Sugg, came right from the beauty blogging community herself.

Amongst her amazing achievements, Zoella has reached 6million subscribers on YouTube, been involved in some fabulous projects including working with Simple skincare, and finally, released her ZoellaBeauty range.

I'm sure you've heard plenty about the range so far, as there was an abundance of introductory and first impressions posts flying around as soon as the first images of the products were announced, but incase you haven't already heard, here's what you can get your hands on:
  • 2 makeup bags, one with a cute guinea pig design and one with the trademark Zoella eyes
  • Blissful Mistful body mist
  • Fizz Bar bath fizzer
  • Creamy Madly Dreamy body lotion
  • Soak Opera shower cream
  • Let's Glow fragranced candle
Everything is really focused on bath and body, relaxation/relieving stress and most importantly, the most expensive items are the makeup cases and body mist, costing a bargainous £8! You can buy ZoellaBeauty from Superdrug and Feel Unique.

I originally wanted to buy all of it, but decided that I was only going to opt for a couple of things, so I purchase the Fizz Bar bath fizzer and the Blissful Mistful body mist.

For a start, the packaging is so cute and you can tell it's Zoella from a mile away. I love the dainty, delicate little designs and I like how everything is consistent and all looks like they are part of the same set.

Little bit of my OCD coming out there, I don't like things that don't match... it makes me sad.

Is it okay to wear white to a wedding?

A group wedding photograph showing all guests wearing white, outside on a green lawn with marquees and tall trees in the background

Back to the wedding posts today, dolls, and I thought I'd kick it off with a bit of a debate that I've seen floating round. It's not a new debate obviously, but, in my experience, it comes up before any wedding and is worth a chat!

Is it okay to wear white to a wedding?

Many think that, traditionally, the bride wears white to wedding to symbolise 'purity' and guests would refrain from wearing the same colour in order to respect this aspect of a wedding's traditions, but it's becoming increasingly popular for brides to pick off-white, ivory, or even coloured gowns for their day in favour of fashion or a passion to not adhere to the traditions. In fact, way back when, it wasn't tradition for a wedding, brides chose to marry in any colour they so wished, apart from black or red. It wasn't until Queen Victoria, that the white dress became popular, and was more a sign of wealth than purity.

So if it's not actually tradition for the bride to wear white, why can a guest not wear white?

VO5 Heat Protect Styling Spray Review

VO5 Heat Protect Styling Spray

I've been a naughty little tyke recently. When my last bottle of heat protection spray ran out, I didn't replace it, and that means I've been blasting my hair with all kinds of heat from my hair dryer and straighteners without protecting it. I know, I know, you can shout at me later..!

Anyway, I knew I had to stop it, so forced myself to the shops in my lunch break the other week to buy some more. I didn't have much time, or much money, so I literally mad-dashed into Superdrug and grabbed the cheapest one, which just so happened to be the VO5 Heat Protect Styling Spray.

First thing's first. It's bright pink packaging is lovely, which goes for the rest of the VO5 range as well. Can't say no to having something in a pretty pink bottle on my dressing table!

The heat protect comes in a cute little spray bottle, that sprays it in a light mist. I tend to towel dry my hair then, as I section to blow dry, spray a little on to each section and brush through.

5 things to do after you have written a blog post

5 things to do after you have written a blog post

As part of my day job as a Marketing Executive, I've been lucky enough to get some great experience and go on some great courses all about social media, blogging and digital marketing to help me progress professionally. It's only recently that I asked myself a couple of questions.

Firstly, why don't I use the same methods I do at work to market my blog?! Rookie mistake, if ever there was one! And secondly, why am I not sharing this knowledge with my fellow bloggers?!

So I'm going to regularly start posting some blogging tips using methods and little gems of wisdom I've picked up along the way! You'll also start to see me use some of these bits and bobs while I am posting and promoting my blog, so you can see how they are done and whether they are working (or not, which I hope isn't the case!).

I'm going to start off pretty easy, with a checklist of things you should do after you have written your blog post. Essentially, it's a list of 5 things you should do to help promote your latest blog post!

Models Own Nail Varnish in Speckled Egg Dove Review

A picture of the Models Own Speckled Egg Nail Varnish in Dove

It's been a while since I did anything nail related on my blog, which can be put down to the fact I broke all of my nails and they didn't look pretty enough for blog pictures!

They are a looking a little better now, so you can be ready for an onslaught of nail reviews and nail art posts that have been backing up while I waited for my nails to look half decent again!

I thought I'd start off with introducing you to one of my absolute favourite nail varnishes at the moment. This is from the Models Own Speckled Egg range. The shade is called Dove and it's a really cute and casual pastel pink and the black glitter gives it such an edge.

Pond's Institute Cold Cream Cleanser and Eye Contour Cream review*

Pond's Institute Cleansing Cold Cream and Eye Contour Cream Review

Skincare is a hot topic for me at the moment, especially with my recent breakout! I've completely restocked my skincare routine with some amazing new products that have been working wonders on my poorly skin, and these two have been too fabulous not to tell you about.

Pond's Institute is a brand that has been around for a while, and I'm not going to lie, I think my gran uses it, so the teenage me has always skipped past it in the drug store because obviously it's made for older people, right? COMPLETELY WRONG.

Now I've tried out the cold cream cleanser and the eye contour cream, I've been kicking myself for not paying attention sooner. Looks like my Gran knows what she's talking about after all. (Just don't tell her I said so!)

It looks like Pond's has recently undergone a bit of a revamp, because I'm sure they didn't look like this before. The cleansing cold cream pot looks gorgeous on my dresser, and the eye contour cream is now in a little tube, which makes it fab for popping in my handbag or travel bag, and also it helps you moderate how much you are using.

I'll start with the cleansing cold cream. The idea behind this is to apply straight onto your skin, whether your are wearing make up or not, and then you can either remove with cotton wool, or with a warm, damp flannel. I tend to go for the flannel as I just feel a bit more refreshed after doing so, especially in the morning.

Jica Nail Magic Nail Hardener and Conditioner Review*

Jica Nail Magic Review

My nails aren't in the best shape at the moment. I have quite soft nails that are prone to breakages from years of constantly wearing acrylics as a teenager, which probably wasn't the smartest idea.

I gave the acrylics up a good couple of years ago, but my nails are still quite soft and I need to be very careful with them. I've tried a few nail hardeners and strengtheners before but they tend to only have effect when you are actually wearing the product, I don't think any of the ones I've actually tried have benefited my nails a massive amount.

The Jica Nail Magic hardener is also a nail conditioner, implying that it helps restore some of the goodness that your nails need. Jica are so confident that it is effective in treating thin, splitting, weak and damaged nails in six weeks, that they offer a money back guarantee. So, if they are that confident, I was excited about giving it a go!
