How to Take Care of your Eyelashes

Taking care of your eyelashes
Alphabet Challenge - E - Eyelashes

So you take care of your hair, your skin and you nails, but do you take care of your eyelashes?

Just like the rest of you, your lashes need a little bit of loving. If you take care of them, you have more chance of getting and maintaining longer, fuller eyelashes. These are my top tips for taking care of eyelashes:

1. Remove your eye makeup every day

Make sure you remove your eye make up properly before bed. You can buy specific eye makeup removers from high street drug stores that are decent prices. I currently use Superdrug’s ‘Simply Pure Gentle Eye Makeup Remover which is £2.59 and does the job!

2. Moisturise your eyelashes

I don't mean use the moisturiser you use on your face, but your eyelashes will really benefit from some moisturising. Once a week, cover a Q-tip in Vaseline (not too much, you don’t want to get it in your eye), close your eyes and sweep from the root to tip. You only need a very small amount, and make sure you remove it before applying mascara.

3. Replace your mascara regularly

Replace your mascara every 3-4 months. You use the same wand in and out of the product repeatedly, and I’m sure many of you don’t think to clean your mascara brush when you do the rest...

To be safe, change your mascara around every 3 months, not just for your eyelashes, but also for your eyes.

4. Remove false eyelashes properly

Fake eyelashes can really help enhance your lashes dramatically. If you decide to have them done professionally, or apply a strip lash yourself before a night out, then make sure you remove them properly.

Do not pull the lashes off, you will damage your own eyelashes, or maybe even pull them out!

Most false lashes will remove safely by soaking in eye makeup remover or warm, clean water. However, you can buy lash glue remover which helps break the glue down quickly so you can remove your false eyelashes safely.

If you just can’t wait to get longer eyelashes, you can try a few things to enhance your natural lashes:

1. Curl your eyelashes

On clean lashes with no old existing product, take your curlers and squeeze the lashes at the lashline for around 10 second per eye. Apply mascara straight after for a full lash look.

My favourite eyelash curler are the Emite Makeup Eyelash Curlers.

2. Use lash enhancers

I have never used lash enhancer, so can’t personally recommend a specific one, but I do have a friend who loves using them!

They help your eyelashes grow faster and some also help strengthen eyelashes.

3. Fake eyelashes

False eyelashes come in many shapes and forms. You can get permanent eyelashes to semi permanent eyelashes depending on what you are after.

You could go for individual eyelash extensions, strip lashes or wings. There are loads of ideas so have a shop around for the best false eyelashes for you!
