I always look forward to receiving my Glossybox, especially as the theme is announced a week or so before, so I always spend my waiting time trying to guess the type of products that I will receive. This month’s theme is ‘Summer Looks’. In my mind, I was expecting some bright colours or products I can take on holiday.
I’m always a fan of Glossybox. I have never had a complaint about a single box, but this time I am slightly disappointed.
1. John Frieda – Frizz Ease Original Serum
4. Helen E Cosmetics – Pomegranate Lip Crayon
5. MeMeMe cosmetics – Eye Inspire Mono Eye Shadow in Mocha
Don’t get me wrong, the quality of the products in my box this month is great! But I wouldn’t team a lot of these with summer looks.
For a start, the shade of eye shadow I received, Mocha, is a lovely brown and will be lovely addition to my smokey eye products, but it doesn’t scream summer to me at all. I would have expected brighter, more floral colours rather than a dark colour.
The little booklet inside Glossybox even says “Update winter staples with bright coloured summer versions” and I don’t think this eyeshadow shade matches that description. The eyeshadow itself is lovely, but with the theme in mind, the shade doesn’t fit.
I think the same about the Lip Crayon. It’s a lovely product, I will pop a review up about it soon, but again, I wouldn’t pair the shade with a theme of summer looks as I think it is a little too dark.
I think the Monu moisturiser and Figs & Rouge lip balm do fit in with the theme, I will be reviewing these ones soon, so you can read my full opinions on them then.
Finally, the John Frieda Frizz Ease Serum. This again, is a lovely product, good quality and a great brand name to receive in a box like this. HOWEVER, I seem to remember filling out a beauty profile with extensive questions about myself and my skin and hair type. Lucky for me, I don’t ever suffer from frizzy hair, in fact it is generally smooth and sleek (and annoyingly flat) a lot of the time. So this product isn’t directed at me at all. I have noticed a few products sneaking into my boxes that go completely against my beauty profile, but now it is becoming a regular occurrence.
I am going to try the serum, and see what effect it has on my hair, as I’m sure it does have other benefits other than dealing with frizz or flyaways, so watch this space...
Overall, the brand names and quality of products are lovely in this box, but I feel that my personal beauty profile hasn’t been taken into consideration AND the theme of summer looks has been missed somewhere along the line.
Fingers crossed for redemption in my next Glossybox, and this is just a one off disappointment.
